Why I Need Concealer in My Life

   Several months ago, I wrote a long winded post on my obsessive hunt for the perfect concealer. After reading Into The Gloss' post on their favorite concealers, I thought it might be good to share an update on not only what concealers work for me but what techniques I've found to be most effective.

   I have (sadly) noticed that as I age, the skin under my eyes not only has more fine lines, but has become a lot drier. I have to be really careful what I use, because one false step can easily make me look like an absolute mess.  So let me get on with what I do to prevent that hot mess from happening.

The Pre-Concealer Prep

  
   I use both a firming and a hydrating serum for my under eyes in order to smooth the skin and to prevent my concealer from caking or patching. I received both of these serums from Boxycharm and have been absolutely loving them.

The Tools of My Preference

   I use the Make Up Forever HD Concealer in R44, which is a deep peach-orange shade, to color correct the extremely dark, deep circles I have. I've found that this formula works best for the drier skin under my eyes, because it's high coverage, hydrating, but not heavy. Other great options are Benefit's Erase Paste (which ITG mentioned and which used to be my all time fave...until my skin texture changed *sob*) or NYX's Dark Circle Correcting Concealer. 

   Over the color correction, I use two shades from Urban Decay's Naked Skin Concealer (Med-Dark Warm and Medium Neutral) mixed together in order to get a shade that is close to my skin tone but still brightening. 

   I apply both the color corrector and the concealers using just my fingertip to pat the product in, as the warmth from my finger helps to work the product in and keeps it from creasing too much.

    After my concealer is applied, I dust a very light amount of setting powder over it using my e.l.f. small tapered blush brush. I will use either Ofra's Banana Powder or Laura Mercier's Translucent Setting Powder to do this, as both have a slight yellow tint to them. This helps further brighten the under eye area.
